Problem with Windows Movie Maker

  I had the original version that came with my Vista computer and loved it!  Now, suddenly, it won't let me import anything.  When I try, it tells me that it can't do it because of an unspecified error.  Everything else seems to work.  I have uninstalled the program and reinstalled it, but it is always the same.  I lost everything I had on there, but that is not important to me.  When I click on import, it looks like the button goes in, but nothing happens.  We have a band and I record it on video and then drag the video to the audio line where I can make a music file out of it.  I need to be able to do this.  I looked at the newer versions and don't like them.  Why will it not let me import anything???
