Validation Woes RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have tried all the steps in the guide, and run the downloadedable tool. My copy is valid. My Windows came pre-installed on a laptop I bought from the FutureShop here in Canada and I have never had any problems with windows or updates until yesterday.

IE7 started acting funny - said a page had a script error (dialog box pop up, no info listed, just yes/no buttons) that repeated about 200 times. After that, no scripts would load, I couldn't run Help Center, couldn't access microsoft update, couldn't validate.

I have tried everything, please help! HJT, AVG scans, online scans, everything. Nothing can find anything "wrong."

Now whenever I try to do anything regarding validation, all I get is:

"Why didn't my machine complete validation?

You have encountered an unknown error. Please contact your local product support team for further assistance with this issue.

    [0x80080299] "

Here is my "copy" from MGAdiag (1.7.0012.0)

  • Anonymous #1,234,579,

Based on an error code (0x800401f3) in your report and previous posters with the same error code, you may want to try to download and install an updated XML core services package.

On this page http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=993c0bcf-3bcf-4009-be21-27e85e1857b1&displaylang=en choose to download the msxml6.msi file (it's the first one on the list of four, 1.5MB in size).

After running this package, restart the computer and then retry validation at www.microsoft.com/genuine.

If you validate successfully, then go on and try to get an Update or other WGA-protected downloads to verify that all WGA files and settings are working normally.

If no joy, then please submit an email support request here:  https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?c1=509&gprid=9860

    Good Luck!

  • I have the latest msxml6.msi package installed before any of these problems occurred. I uninstalled and installed it just to be safe.

Still no go. I will email Microsoft's support.

    Thank you.
