  • Question

  • Hi,

After 4 to 6 months without problems; my version of Win7 ultimate is suddenly no longer activated. I still pass the genuine test on mirosoft.com/genuine; although neither the online activation nor the phone activation are successful. I have bought the licences off a microsoft online reseller.

This problem is affecting multiple systems (with different keys, of course). I have issued a slmgr -rearm,  retried the whole thing; but nothing.

Here's one of the system's diag below.

  • When I wrote the sticky back in May we had not yet seen the -068- range, however since then it has been confirmed that -068- is also indicative of MSDN keys. Sorry but this is an MSDN key, and the remaining keys purchased from the same or similar sources are undoubtedly suspect. The way to confirm each key is to submit a report for every computer, or verify the PIDs

Do not post any product keys, however it is safe to ask about a pid range. Navigate to system properties on any suspect computer and note the PID three digit segment, if you are in doubt after that then post a report.

Darin from MS can and will verify the key based on the diagnostic report (again, don't post the key as anyone can see it).

  • "I have bought the licences off a microsoft online reseller"

The only authorized online resellers for MS products are MS, HP and Dell. Others may soon be added but as of now any other retailers are most likely selling bogus products.

Your key was derived from an MSDN or TN subscription. If you are not a subscription holder and bought the key from a non-authorized third party then it is highly likely that the key has been blocked as being a stolen or abused key. I suggest you take recourse with the seller of the key if possible.

Here is a link to a sticky that covers MSDN keys and the problems associated with them when the account they were derived from has been abused.

Here is a link to a sticky on buying software safely.

I understand from your post that you have other computers exhibiting the same symptoms, if the keys were obtained from the same or similar source I would have to assume that they are or will be blocked also.

  • Thank you for your prompt reply.

My PID's 3 digits is "068" and is not included in the 065,066,067 range described for Ultimate, as given at the location (http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en/genuinewindows7/thread/a2444f34-0aff-4f29-a8ac-67e28b0c0285)

How can I be sure of the blocking reason?

    Thank you again

  • Confirmed. The key being used, in that copy of Windows, is a Blocked MSDN Product Key.

Please follow the information that Carl linked to.

    Thank you,
