please help me with my product key

My PC crashed just before new year . it was put into a shop to get fixed . i did have Windows XP Home Edition on my pc before it was fixed .. But when they fixed it they told me that they had installed a new hard drive BUT they did not tell me that they had installed windows xp prof. Now evertime i switch on my pc i get a message saying i may have conterfit software on my pc evertime i try to enter the product key that is on the side of my pc it will not accept it . The shop that repaird my pc is now closed down . i have the last five digets of the product key that should go with this new microsoft software. it cost me nearly £300 to have it repaird at that shop and now the pc is not working properly as i can not down load any microsoft stuff ... can anyone help me please ..

Step 1 is to run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012, then click the Windows tab, click the "Copy" button, then paste the report into a response in this thread.
Step 2 is to look on the computer or with the materials you received with the computer or with your retail purchase of Windows to see if you have a Certificate of Authenticity (COA). If you have one, tell us about the COA. Tell us:
1. What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center, or another version of Windows?
2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?
3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?
4. DO NOT post the Product Key.
