Office marked as non genuine, had this laptop since 2004 RRS feed

  • Question

  • My copy of Microsoft Office has been deemed non-genuine.

I have had this laptop (Dell) since 2004 and Office was installed by Dell when I purchased it.

    Have tried deleting the opa11.dat file from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Data\

Starting an Office application after doing this still returns the non genuine warning.

So ran the diagnostic reports and can see I have file mismatches.

    So, how do I fix?

  • Hello Kidbikersau,

Thank you for posting in the OGA Forum and providing us with your MGA Results. Curious has your computer ever been turned in for repairs? Has any individual ever helped you with repairs which required complete reinstallation of Office or Windows? As Dan mentioned the Office currently installed on your computer was not installed by the OEM Manufacturer.

As Dan mentioned you should have received installation media for Office. Please uninstall Office currently installed on your computer and use the supplied software and install again. Next please visit http://www.howtotell.com and compare your Office Discs against what you see here.

    Take care and thank you,

    Stephen

  • Hello Kidbikersau,

The mgadiag report is showing that your installation of XP Pro on your Dell Inspiron 600m laptop is genuine :-)

However, if you refer to the snippet below, the report is giving us some bad news regarding your current installation of Office:

    OGA Data-->
Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2
Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 - 114 Blocked VLK 2
    OGA Version: Registered, 1.7.105.35
    Signed By: Microsoft
    Office Diagnostics: 025D1FF3-230-1

This particular installation of Office Professional 2003 did NOT come from Dell.  When Dell installs Office, they install OEM editions which would not accept a Volume Licensing Product Key for installation and activation even if that VLK were genuine.  The Dell installed editions of Office would also have "OEM" as part of the Product ID, while your installed Office has this for a Product ID: <Pid>73931-640-0000106-57500</Pid><PidType>14</PidType>  The "640" number and the PID Type of "14" indicate this is a Volume Licensing edition, which would never be installed by Dell and then sold to an individual consumer.

The good news is that if indeed your computer came from Dell with a perpetual OEM license for Office, they would also have included genuine Microsoft hologrammed Program CDs and the Certificate of Authenticity.  It would look just like the one in this pic:  http://upload.ecvv.com/upload/Product/200801/C20071017175925878460_Microsoft_Office_SBE_2003_with_BCM_Software_with_COA_OEM.jpg  Use the CDs and the Product Key printed on the CoA to install the genuine Office after uninstalling the nongenuine Office.

    Good Luck!
