still NOT Genuine, after removing (non-genuine) Office and installing new Office. RRS feed

  • Question

  • After uninstalling a non-genuine MS-Office, purchasing a new retail copy of Office and installing it, I still get 'Not Genuine' notifications.  Short of re-installing Windows, how can I be certain all traces of the non-genuine software are removed?

  •      In addition to Gerard’s steps, try renaming Odataext.dat:

    1.     Click Start -> run and type %ALLUSERPROFILE %->OK

    2.     Click on Application Data-> Office Genuine Advantage->data.

    3.     Right click on Odataext.dat->rename->odata.exe.old.

      Note: If you are unable to find the Application Data, Click Tools in the Menu Bar >Folder Options>View > Enable    Show Hidden Files and Folder and Uncheck Hide Extensions for Known File Types
