Password sync/update between WHS and XP? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Howdy,

Brand new to WHS 2011 and just have what's hopefully a simple question.

Our client PCs are running Windows XP Pro.  Each user has a local account with a password they use to log on.  I'm going to set WHS up so the same ID has the same password.

My question is, how does it work if someone wants to change their password for some reason?  I don't want to have them log into the PC with one password and then have to enter a second one to get to the WHS stuff.  I also don't want them to have to change their password twice if they want to change it.

Does WHS somehow sync with XP to update both passwords at the same time?  I'm hoping no one would ever need to change their password but just want to know how this will work for when I come to that point.

    Thanks.

  • No, you as Administrator, will have to change the password on the Server if the User changes his/her local password. Otherwise, they will have to enter their new credentials every time they connect to a share. As you don't expect them to be changing passwords often, this is not a big burden on the Server Administrator.
