off topic - Help removing update icon from tool bar

On my computer, I noticed the microsoft update icon shield on the tool bar. It was recommended that I down load, "Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB936181)" I did, and it tells me that it was successfully downloaded, but the Icon will not disappear. It is always there on to tool bar each time I turn on my computer, asking me to download the same thing. How can I remove or get the Icon to go away???????

There are several reports of this problem here in the forum dating from January, but I just had to use this fix on my laptop. I’m not sure what's causing the deployment lag on some systems.
