Setting up Public IM with Office Communicator R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Does anyone have any reference material or can point me to any web sites explaining the whole Public IM setup within OCS R2.  I have found bits and pieces here and there like you need a separate license for the Public IM's, provisioning from Microsoft that might take a week (might take 6 weeks), ect.  Just wanted to see if anyone had the process down step by step.

  • Hello,

Please grab the edge server deployment guide here (for R2) and check out the PIC deployment section:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=E9F86F96-AA09-4DCA-9088-F64B4F01C703&displaylang=en

This will cover how to configure your side.  From there, once you order the license you will be able to configure the provisioning on the licensing site, you should get a notification for that.  You may also get a kit from Microsoft with provisioning info in (including a how to packet).

From there just make sure you followed the certificate rules (don't use godaddy on your access edge etc...) and you install the root CA for AOL on your edge server and you should be set.

There are 2 licenses you'll need from Microsoft
The Connector - This is like a sever CAL, you'll only need 1
User - This is like your user CAL, 1 for every user

    These are not very expensive.

    Hope this helps!
