Hello dtkodak123,
I apologize but we can not travel to anyone's house and repair computer systems but I can try and resolve the issue by providing you with guidance :-). First please tell me are you receiving any error codes and/or messaging whatsoever that would indicate the problem you are experiencing? This would help.
Are you having complications loading the Active X control? I would like to provide the following information and steps for you to follow to attempt resolving this issue.
Step 1: WGA Manual ActiveX Installation
1. Click the Start button, then click “Run”
2. Type in “iexplore http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=39204” then click ‘OK’. You will be prompted to download “LegitCheckControl.cab”.
3. Choose Open. Once this completes, a window will open showing two files, LegitCheckControl.dll and LegitCheckControl.inf. Leave this window open for now.
4. Click the Start button, then click “Run”
5. Type in “system32”, then click ‘OK’. (If you are running Windows XP, you may need to click “show files” to allow access to this system directory.)
6. Drag the LegitCheckControl.dll file from the window that was open into the system32 directory. If you are prompted to overwrite a file, choose ‘Yes’ to overwrite any existing file. (If you are running Vista, you may be prompted to provide administrator permission to complete the action. If so, press “Continue” and allow it.)
7. Click the Start button, then click “Run”
8. Type “regsvr32 LegitCheckControl.dll”, and then click ‘OK’.
9. You should see a dialog saying “DllRegisterServer in LegitCheckControl.dll succeeded.”
After you finish the above steps please restart the computer and try to validate Windows again: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine. Please locate the “Validate Windows” button in the upper right hand corner. Double click on the button and follow the guidance. Were you able to pass Windows Validation successfully?
Should you have additional problems please review the knowledge base (KB) article “How to activate Windows XP” located @ http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307890&sd=techh .
Restart the computer and contact the Microsoft Activation Center to re-activate Windows should there be problems should you need assistance. Activation and registration of a Microsoft product is located @: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326851/en-us .
The Office Activation Center can be reached at (888) 652-2342 from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM Pacific Time. Please let me know if this solves your problem if not provide me with any details and errors you receive so I can help you further

Morning dtkodak,
Please follow the below steps and tell us if this resolves your issue.
1) Download and install MSXML 6.0 at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=993c0bcf-3bcf-4009-be21-27e85e1857b1&DisplayLang=en (this should correct the XML issue)
2) Delete the file LegitCheckControl.DLL from the c:\windows\system32 folder (this removes the WGA Validation ActiveX control, in case it is corrupt or improperly installed)
3) Download and install the WGA Validation ActiveX control at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69479 (this will re-install the WGA Validation ActiveX control which is required to validate)
4) Go to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/ and click the "Start Diagnostic" button, if there are any problems listed, click the "Resolve Now" button. The site will either resolve the problem itself or provide steps for you to follow. Once you complete the Diagnostic without error, click the "Validate Windows" button.
5) Retry the Windows Update site.
If you were able to "Validate Windows" at the Diagnostic Site, but you are still having problems with the Windows Update site, there may be a problem with the Windows Update files, on your computer. Try the below steps:
6) Click 'Start' button, then 'Run...'
7) In the Run window, Type: cmd <click OK>
8) In the command prompt, type the following command: Net stop wuauserv <press Enter>
9) In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Windows and delete the Softwaredistribution folder.
10) In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Windows\system32 and delete the Softwaredistribution folder.
11) Back at the command prompt, type the following: Net start wuauserv <press Enter>
12) reboot and try Windows Update again.
(note: the next time Windows Update does a scan for updates, the Softwaredistribution folders (and the included files) will be recreated)
Thank you,

okay, well we got breakdown on step2, i went to run and did iexplore http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=39204 in the run box and get this, the standard cant connect to the internet site page.
Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
but i did do a search on my computer for the "LegitCheckControl.dll" file and found it in the system32 folder. So i tried steps 8 and 9 they both worked, and i restarted the comp, but i still get errors on the activeX thing, maybe i dont have it on my comp? how do i get it to pop up for me to install it?
by the way, im on windows XP servicepack 2.Thursday, December 27, 2007 1:44 PM -
i just had my friend go to that site, the one i couldnt, he could, i had him download the file, and when i tried to drop it into the system32 folder, it wouldnt let me, becuase "a file with the name you specified already exist"
so its messed up all over the place. why isnt my ActiveX not working? i think thats my first problem.

If you were able to "Validate Windows" at the Diagnostic Site, but you are still having problems with the Windows Update site, there may be a problem with the Windows Update files, on your computer. Try the below steps:
