Report Authoring Extensions RRS feed

  • Question

  • We will be developing custom reports. To run these reports does Reporting Extensions and Report Authoring Extensions be installed on the CRM server? Or are these extensions that would be installed on a development computer and can be taken down after the reports have been loaded into the CRM server?

Also during installation I get an error that required components are missing. It then gives me a link to Report Authoring Extensions for CRM 2011 (I am installing CRM 2013). So I did check

    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40343

It says I need Business Intelligence Development Studio AND Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1

    OR

SQL Server Data Tools AND Visual Studio 2010

I am planning to install the "SQL Server Data Tools" from SQL 2012. Do I really also have to install VS2010?

  • Reporting Extensions gets installed on the SSRS server and allow for custom reports to be run. The Report Authoring Extensions get installed on the developer machine and allows you to use a FetchXML datasource to access CRM data in Online environment where T-SQL cannot be used.

I've never tried installed SSDT without VS2010 - but the documentation here indicates if you don't have a full version installed it will install the shell version for you.
