Firewall is blocking XP to XP Remote Desktop Connection RRS feed

  • Question

  • I connect to work from home using XP to XP Remote Desktop Connection. If I turn the Firewall off at work, I have no problem connecting from home. If I turn it on (and who wants to keep being reminded that my computer is at risk with the Firewall off?), it simply will not allow me to access my computer at work?

    Any ideas?

  • I am also using Windows Live OneCare and the OneCare firewall allows the Remote Desktop connection - however, I can also use Remote Desktop from Windows because I made changes in OneCare.

    Open OneCare.

    Click Change Settings

    Firewall tab/advanced settings button

    Ports and Protocols tab.

Find the two options for Remote Desktop and place a check mark on both of them.

Close the dialogs and it should now work for you.

  •  What firewall are you using at work? Depending on the firewall being used, you can probably configure it to allow remote desktop connections to pass through.
