Vista product key can not be validated RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all -

I've got a retail boxed copy of Vista Ultimate Upgrade, but when I try to run the install it tells me the product key can not be validated. It does this whether I try to upgrade from within Windows or by booting from the DVD, as well as whether I look for updates or not. I get the same results.

I ran the MGA Diagnostics tool (v1.7.0039.0) and my output is as follows:

  • Hi Isopropoflex,

"I've got a retail boxed copy of Vista Ultimate Upgrade, but when I try to run the install it tells me the product key can not be validated."

I'm not sure if I understand why you are installing Vista Ultimate upgrade. According to your Diagnostic Report, you already have Vista Ultimate installed. The only problem that I see is that you need to enter the product key (that came with Vista Ultimate) by following the below steps:

    1) Click the "Start" button

    2) Right Click "Computer"

    3) Select "Properties"

    4) Scroll to the bottom of the window and click the "Change Product Key" link

    5) Enter the Product Key (that came with Vista Ultimate) and click 'Next'

    6) Follow the directions to complete the Product Key Change.

    I hope this helps,
