Drive problem

  I reloaded Win XP Pro on a friends computer. (Clean install) Everything seems to be working fine except the CD burner and DVD drive. He can load his games on the computer with the drives but when he puts the disk in to play the game it says insert the disk. He has the disk in and they are original disks not burnt copys. He has tried with both drives but nothing.
  
  Does anyone have any ideas on what to look for. It has me confused because the drives work for everything else but don't seem to recognize the disk for playing the games. He has tried this on 3 different games.
