How can I Locate a Windows 7( Public Folder ), onto Windows Home Server? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to Re-Locate my, Windows 7( Public Music Folder ) onto my
    ( Windows Home Server ).

    I have seen a Similar Question relating to Moving a Windows 7 ( Public Folder )
    to a Labeled Drive on the same machine.
    i.e. ( How can I move default location of Public folders to a new drive ).

    Does anyone know how to Change the Location of a
    Windows 7( Public Folder ) to a WHS( Network Location ), using a UNC Path?
    e.g. ( \\Server\Music\My_Music )
    I'm not sure if I have to be using Windows 7 Professional?

    NOTE:
    I was able to Change the Location of my Vista( Public Music Folder ) to my
    Windows Home Server( Music Share )  ...  So ...
    I am hopeful that it CAN be done on Windows 7?

    NB.
    I previously added this Question to the above Similar Question, but,
    I wasn't sure if that was the Correct Discussion Protocol;
    so I have recreated this here, as a separate Question.
    I didn't know any other way of Quoting that ...
    Similar Question( How can I move default location of Public folders to a new drive ).

    Thanks In Advance for Any Help

    This is really more of a Win7 question than WHS question, but you can change it by right clicking on the Public Music folder > Properties > Location tab.  However, you should avoid using Sync Center (Offline Files) on WHS as some other users have had issues using that (due to the way Drive Extender works).

  • Wheat-1;

    From my own tinkering with Windows 7 it is pretty easy to set up a new Library for music that points to any file on your WHS.  I have all of my music loaded into the Music folder of the WHS and I automatically rip to that location.  Within Windows 7 you can also set the WHS Library location as a default as well.  Windows 7 and the Library function make the WHS music sharing function very easy.

    I should point out that I don't even use the Windows 7 default 'Public' folders now that I have the WHS set up and Windows 7 Libraries.  Just create a new Library, set is as Default, and point it to the WHS Music folder.  My music folder on WHS is accessible from within my PS3 and DirecTV receivers as well as my Win 7 computers (Desktop and Netbook).
