I cannot remove write protection from my external drive (SDXC card) [EDITED] RRS feed

  • Question

  • Today I tried using SyncToy to copy from my laptop's hard drive to the SDXC card I keep in the laptop's card slot, and after months of doing so daily with no problem, today I received the notice that drive E: (the SDXC card) was write protected. I popped the SDXC card out and put it back in. No difference. I opened Command Prompt and used the whole "attributes disk clear readonly" process to remove any write protection that might have been on the disk. Also no difference. Thanks in advance for any suggestions! [NOTE: first version of this posting indicated that the drive wasn't actually write protected; this turned out to be incorrect - my mistake. I can't copy to it manually either.]
