  • My drive bays are full and I want to use the server to quickly check another drive I have. Is it safe to swap out one of the non-system drives, do some diagnosis on it, then swap the old one back?

  • While you won't, in theory, harm your server if the drive is only absent for a brief time, you can expect that your shares will be impacted while the drive is missing, and backups as well. I would really recommend you use a computer other than your server to check the non-storage pool drive.
