  • The Key in use is from a Dell machine - the motherboard here is retail one (probably Asrock?)

    The installation is not genuine.

Is there a COA sticker on the machine's case? From where did you get this copy of Windows 7?

  • In that case, use the Key that you got with your Windows package from Newegg, and change the Key to that, using the Change Product Key link at the botton of the System properties page.

  • thats the thing i dont have the box anymore, i moved twice since i bought it and have no idea where the key is, does that mean i have to buy it all over again or just deal with the nongenuine one?

  • Unless you can satisfactorily provide proofs of ownership to MS, you have no chance of getting a replacement Key, and will have to purchase a new license.

(If this was an OEM System Builder license - did you perhaps put the sticker on the inside of the case, rather than the outside?)

  • You'll need to purchase a genuine edition of Windows 7 and perform a "clean install".  See: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM
