Going from Vail to release candidate possibility RRS feed

  • Question

  • Looking for advice on Home Server, which I don't currently have and have never used:

I want to start using it now, I don't want to use the currently release based on 2003 and would use Vail in beta BUT it sucks that it's always the case that going from Beta to RC means you have to wipe and do a clean install, so I wonder if this is possible: buy hardware with two drives, start using "Vail" and install the OS on one drive and configure it to backup data and images to the other drive. Then once the release candidate comes out I'd only have to wipe the one drive and do the install of the new OS and not lose all my backed up data...

anyone know if this might be possible?

  • I would still plan for complete fresh installed of both OS and Storage Pools for any possible future releases.  If migration of the storage pool is an option, will will provide further information in conjuction with the release, however as with most Beta testing we recommened a fresh install from previous versions.
