Detecting character set hangs WLW RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

    I have suddenly been unable to add new blogs to WLW. As soon as it comes to the step where it tries to detect the character set it hangs and doesn't go any further.

    I did set the content type in my pages head like so:
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />

    What could be going wrong?

  • Do you ever actually see an error in Windows Live Writer, or does it just get stuck?  If it just gets stuck, can you try leaving it 'stuck' for ~15 minutes to see if eventually finishes or gives and error.  That will be helpful information for understanding the problem.

  • Ok, thanks for your reply.

    I don't know if there are any developers of WLW around here, but 15 minutes seems a little long to detect an error imo.

    But I've left it running now (12:30) and will see what I get...

    ... After 20 minutes still no succes. I will leave it on for an hour, but I don't expect anything to happen.

    Any other idea's?

    This is the website I'm testing it with:

    Edit 2:
    Hour passed, nothing happened.

  • If someone wants to test this on their pc (I've tested it on a vista pc and laptop) I can send them a temp account.

  • I am one of the developers. :)

    I was just hoping it would give an error message at some point, because without one it is hard to tell what is wrong.  If you send us a temp account we can try to configure the blog here to see if we have the same problem.  You can email us at wlw-team@microsoft.com
