Windows Vista (TM) Build 6002 This is a copy of Windows and is not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  •  Hello, recently I had to restore my laptop due to the Blue Screen. I changed the Hard-drive and had to re-enter a Product key. I bought a Second hand Product key on eBay - and I seem to have the "Windows Vista (TM) Build 6002 This is a copy of Windows and is not genuine" Error.
     I dont know whether it is a virus... My Diagnostic Issues are below;

  • Hello Nat,

      Your Diagnostic Report is showing be one issues and another possible issue.

      The possible issue is "TTS Error: M:20110520194710009-".  This means Vista is (or was) experiencing a Tamper.  However, that big long number is a Time Stamp and the time it's showing for the last time the tamper was detected was 20th of May 2011.  The fact that Vista hasn't detected the tamper for 6 days now suggests that the Tamper has fixed itself and likely no longer the cause of the Non-Genuine issue.

      The other issue is that Vista is not currently Activated.

      The first thing I suggest is to attempt to re-activate using the By Phone method (see below for Activate By Phone instructions).

      So, as long as the Tamper is, in fact, no longer an issue, the re-activation should resolve the issue.  However, if reactivating doesn't fix the issue, it could be the Tamper is still occurring.  In that case, re-run a new Diagnostic Report and post it and we'll see if it provides any additional information.

      To Activate by Phone:

    a)    If you have access to the Start button: Click the Start button, and type: slui 4 in the search field and then press the "Enter" key. This will bring up the Activate by Phone dialog window. Follow the steps provided by the window. The phone activation process should only take about 6 minutes.

    b)    If you do not have access to the Start button: Reboot and login to Vista, a dialog window will come up. In that window, click the option "Access computer with reduced functionality". Once you do that, Internet Explorer or Firefox browser will open. In the address bar type: c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe press enter, a new window will come up, type: slui 4 and hit enter and follow steps to Activate over the Phone.

    When you first call, you will be interacting with an Automated Phone Prompt. Either select the option to talk to a Live Rep or if there is no option, do not enter anything into the Prompt. This should force the Phone Prompt to transfer you to a Live Rep.

    Thank you,
