Getting error message in activation screen RRS feed

  • Question

  • I bought at a store a years subscription to windows llive one care. I installed it on my pc and forgot to activate it after a week, but before I could my computer crashed. Now I have reformatted and reinstalled this program and I have struggled for 79 days to activate this thing on my computer through the internet. I have 11 days left and I have no idea what to do. Everytime I go to subscribe with my windows live ID I get "message 8059, The product key entered is already in use." I do not know how to get around this because this key is in use previously on my pc....PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!

  • When reinstalling oneCare you must use the same e-mail address that you used to install and activate your subscription the first time you installed.

If you don't recall the LiveID you used for your subscription, you will need to contact support who can provide that information to you using your Key and/or contact information.

Alternatively, sign in at http://billing.microsoft.com with email addresses that you have set up as LiveIDs and one will show your subscription listed - that would the LiveID to use to activate the reinstall.

  • Sebastion's reply is correct, assuming that you already activated a OneCare subscription with the retail product key on any PC. If the key is brand new and unused by you, then it is possible that you are holding a duplicate key as the error you are getting means that the key has been used already. Support can tell you the LiveID for that key.

  • No, this is not a duplicate. Because I had previously registered that key and loaded it, but never got online, it is now saying it is already in use. In use by my computer that crashed and now and to redownload. I have tried what you guys said to do and nothing is working, I am using the correct windows live ID and I get the same error message. I think the best bet here is not to buy this product again. This was the biggest hassle in software I have ever had in my life, I think i will just go back to Norton unless you guys have any other suggestions. Thanks.

  • If you installed previously and activated the subscription by signing in with a LiveID and entering the retail product key, but signing in now, after the reinstall, returns the error that the key has already been used, then you are not using the same LiveID that you originally used to activate the subscription. The fact that after activation last time you were unable to complete installation to get OneCare fully working doesn't matter - activation with the key started the subscription.

Per Sebastion's initial reply, you need to contact support to find out what the correct LiveID is or sign in at http://billing.microsoft.com with any email addresses that you may have configured to be LiveIDs until you find the right one for the subscription.
