(MODS: please move this thread to the Vista Genuine forum)

For some reason, your PC is unable to properly read the SLIC table in the BIOS that allows Windows to self-activate.
You need to change the Product Key in use to the one on your COA stacker on the case, and then activate by phone

Go to the System Properties page, and at the bottom should be a link to Change Product Key - use that to enter the Key from your COA sticker on the case, and then activate the machine.

    To activate by phone:-
To Activate by Phone, Click the Start button, and type:
    slui 4
in the Search box and then hit the "Enter" key.
This will bring up the Activate by Phone dialog window.
Follow the steps provided by the window.

For some reason your PC is unable to properly read the SLIC table in the BIOS, which is preventing the system from properly self-activating.
The solution is to change the Product Key to the one on your COA Sticker, using the link at the bottom of the System Properties page.
You may well need to activate by telephone afterwards.

Sorry - I missed your earlier response, so I'll answer both at once here.

    1) You would need to purchase a Full Retail copy of Win7 to have any change of preserving the installation 'as-is' - and I'm not sure that it would work even then. certainly, if you go that way, then you need to back up all your data to external media first, and make sure that you have all the license keys, etc handy just in case.
    2) The only other thing you can do, since manufacturers don't normally hand out replacement Keys, and none that I know keep a record of which key was issued to which machine, is to revert the system back to ex-factory state using the manufacturer's Recovery media, which should solve the problem.
