Question regarding Microsoft Software Validation RRS feed

  • Question

Hi, I have activated my Windows Vista Home Premium, and when I go to "Welcome Center" -> "View Computer Detail" it says the Windows is activated. My Question is do I need to validate it again (using Microsoft Genuine Advantage Validation Tool or some sort), knowing it's already activated?

  • Hi Jestia,

Activation and Validation are two diffrent processes.

Activation is done, usually, within the first 30 days after installing Vista (or if Vista came pre-installed on your computer, it may be Activated already, from the factory) and it allows you to use your Microsoft software.

Validation is an on-going process, but is usually only required when you download non-critical updates from Microsoft. It allows you to confirm that you are using Genuine Microsoft software and you can also take advantage of special offers available exclusively to customers running genuine Windows (such as those found here: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/offers/Default.aspx?displaylang=en&sGuid=d8625c85-ec6f-4eef-a935-7056e719f8be)

    I hope this helped,
