Hello Robin Osterly,

At the moment it looks like you have two installations of Office 2007, Professional Plus and Home & Student.
The Pro Plus installation is the one that is nongenuine. Uninstalling Pro Plus, and then going to www.microsoft.com/genuine and clicking on the Validate Office button should clear the OGA Notifier cache and report Office 2007 H&S as Genuine.
Regarding Office 2007 Pro Plus, it is a nongenuine installation of a Volume Licensing-only edition of Office 2007. Invalid VLK means that the Volume Licensing Key that came with the software was generated by a pirating program know as a Key generator, or keygen for short.
Did you purchase this copy of Office thinking it was Office 2007 Professional licensed for Retail sale to consumers? If so, please return it to the place of purchase for a full refund as you were not sold what you thought you were buying. If you purchased Office thru a popular auction or internet sales site such as ebay or Amazon, these sites have consumer protections that you may be able to take advantage of. If you purchased with a credit card, your credit card company may also have consumer protections in place that you can use.

Hi Robin,
Thank you for submitting your counterfeit report! Every little bit helps :-)
Regarding what you were sent by the seller, Yes, this is a favorite tactic of the seller who knows full well that they were peddling counterfeit volume licensing copies of Office 2007 Pro Plus and trying to pass them off as retail copies of Office 2007 Professional.
They were caught by you and the Office Genuine Advantage Utility, and when you called them on their bluff, they compounded one dishonest deed with another. Downloads of Microsoft Office Trials directly from Microsoft are all trial licenses that, when converted by entering a retail product key, become perpetual retail licenses for that edition of Office 2007. The product key they sent to you might be a retail product key, and might actually convert a trial installation of Office to a perpetual license, but the question is, how did the dishonest seller get that Product Key, and how long is that key going to last until Microsoft catches up to it? They might have used a Key generator to make up their own key that might work for a while; they might have stolen the key from another retail purchaser of Office; or they might be using a product key issued to TechNet or Action Pack subscribers (used by developers and regsitered Microsoft partners), which are not to be sold to individual consumers. Sooner or later, the product key they gave you is also going to "go bad" (partly because they are probably giving that key to others who have caught them just as you did) and once again you would be caught short, paying for something that you never really received.
If you purchased this counterfeit Office through a selling venue that allows customer feedback, please take the time to write feedback that describes the counterfeit materials you got from them---hopefully the next person will read the feedback and decide not to buy from these dishonest sellers.

Thanks. I contacted the supplier and amazingly got an answer which is reproduced below:
"Hi,
Sorry to bring you so much inconvenience
We have checked with our supplier. It’s our mistake to put the wrong key. Please unload the program in your computer, restart the computer and load the program on link : http://us20.trymicrosoftoffice.com/product.aspx?re_ms=oo&family=officepro&culture=en-US
Any problem comes back to our service.
Then install with new genuine key :xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-3KDRB-32BK8 .Please kindly have a try. It will work smoothly on your computer.
Corn"
Somehow it doesn't seem quite right that I should download a trial version and use a key they have supplied!!! Can you check the key out please?
I've filed a counterfeit report 2S1R-65XL and the software will go back to MS tomorrow. Is there anything else you would like me to do to catch these cheats?
Best

Thanks Dan that was roughly what I thought. Hopefully MS will provide me with a clean copy and I can be legit but I will try to pursue them for a refund anyway. Not that I hold out a great deal of hope! Unsurprisingly there is no feedback on their site. You may be interested to know they are a sponsored link on Google (softdealworld) which comes up readily with a search such as "cheap Microsoft Office". I've written to Google to complain.
Best wishes
