Network Health? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have one PC (on my network of four clients) that has not been backed up.  Because of this the Network Health Status is listed as "critical."  I think that this is misleading.  What are the levels for Network Health?  How can I exclude one PC from backups and not get a critical health warning?

    thanks.

This has been the subject of numerous posts, suggestions and bug submissions. No one is sure whether MS will swat it - we'll just have to wait and see. Until then the only thing you can do is ignore it.

  • Does WHS also report on its own health?  Like AV or spyware running and up to date or health of drives?

There are several categories (that you mentioned being in the Help area) listed for status, but my Console screen only shows a column for backup.  No green/yellow/red lights for AV or antispyware or updates or firewalls.  Am I missing something?

    Thanks.

  • Yes it does.  Here's a list from the WHS Help page:

    Server Hard Drive

Yellow - There is less than 15% space available for server storage.
Yellow - Shared folder duplication has stopped for one or more shared folders because server storage is low.
Red - There is less than 5% space available for server storage.
Red - One or more hard drives have failed.

    Evaluation Period Expiration

Yellow - 30 days or less remain before your evaluation copy of Windows Home Server expires.
Red - 15 days or less remain before your evaluation copy of Windows Home Server expires.

    Product Activation

Yellow - 15 days or less remain for you to activate Windows Home Server.
Red - 10 days or less remain for you to activate Windows Home Server.

    Windows Update

Red - An update for Windows Home Server requires your approval before it can be installed.

    Unsupported Printer

Yellow - An unsupported printer is connected to Windows Home Server.

    Shared Folder Duplication

Yellow - A shared folder contains one or more files with a path name longer than 260 characters. These files cannot be duplicated.

  • Thanks Doug.

It looks like the server status shows up in the Console under Network Health.  I guess it only displays when something is wrong or needs attention.  It would be nice if it showed a Green Light for all these categories when they're OK.

  • I have a red icon, but the reason seems to be that the nightly backup did not complete. There is however no reason why it won't complete and repeated attempts have the same result.

If the evaluation has expired, would it say that or would it just not allow any further backups to occur? Where can I look to see if it has expired?

    Thanks.

  • If the evaluation period expires, the machne will log itself off. But backups failing could be due to real bugs. Could you please file connect bug with Server & Client TalQ logs attached?
