Can't specify specific month as a condition when setting up workflow RRS feed

  • I am trying to create a workflow that will set the duration of any new service activity scheduled in the month of January (regardless of year) to equal the number entered on a field on a related account record.

    For example, a service activity is scheduled with a start date of 1/4/16 for Account ABC. Because this date falls in January, the duration would be updated to whatever value is specified in the custom field on Account ABC.

    I am running into three problems when setting this up:

    1. I can only select specific dates when specifying a condition on the Start Date field and there is no way to say "any date in any January" that I can find

    2. The Duration field does not show on the form when setting up step properties

    3. The Customer field does not show up under Look For in the Form Assistant when setting up step properties

    Any advice from someone more expert in workflows is greatly appreciated!

  • To get the month from the date, you'd need a custom workflow activity. This is a pretty simple example, and there may well be some existing examples of this.

    The Customer field on a service activity is implemented as a activity party, which means it can theoretically take multiple values, and that's why it's not available in the Look For area.

    I think the duration is derived from the scheduledstart and scheduledend.

    Given there's nothing you can do to make the customer and duration fields available, I think your only option is to write the whole logic as a custom workflow activity
