WHS 2011 Connector Install Error - Build chain failed for the following certificate RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to install the Connector software for WHS 2011 on a Windows Vista machine. This machine had a previous connector for the original WHS server installed previously. I uninstalled that old connector with some difficulty, and thought it was all cleaned out. When I attempt to install the new connector, it starts off fine and then after about 5 minutes it starts backing out the install and then gives me the error dialog - "The Windows Home Server 2011 Connector has encountered an unexpected error. Click Close to undo most of the changes that are made to this computer".

I feel there is something left over from the ancient WHS connector install that I've missed, but can't find it anywhere. I've even manually installed the root certificate from the new server into the client to see if that was the issue. So, after several hours of working at this, I'm at a loss.
