Assign 2 Business Units to 1 User RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have to implement Business Unit(BU) structure for CRM 4.0 but over here I want to give access of sibling business units to 1 user. As an eg. we have 4 BUs of 1 Parent BU, then for some users i want to give access to 1 child BU, for some 2 child BU and for some 3 child BU that too in multiple combinations. Please help.

    Thanks in Advance!

  • User can only belong to 1 business unit at a time.  What is background for needing access to multiple business unit combinations?  Is this for record access?  If so - I would look into record sharing in 4.0 to accomplish.

For 2011 - you can assign a record to a team that allows multiple users within that team to be "owners"

  • Thanks Frank Lee for reply!!

Can you please elaborate more about record sharing! Are you referring to team structure for sharing???

  • Correct - in 4.0 - you can share record access to other users in other business units.  Teams for group of users can also be used in record sharing to save time if same users needing same share access

  • Thanks Frank once again for reply!!

But I have to manually share record to that team? Is there any way user can be automatically given all rights(privileges) of sibling business unit's Entities?

    Please help!!

  • Dear Garfield.... If you want to share a record to users automatically when they are created or status changes, you can achieve it by creating a workflow. There is a ShareRecord Activity workflow available on codeplex you can download and use it: http://crm40sharestep.codeplex.com/ Regards Vinay
