Having trouble reinstalling windows live one care RRS feed

  • Question

  •

I rebooted my computer, and tried to reinstall one care. It told me that i needed to uninstall it first. well i went to your support pages, and downloaded the clean up file, which doesn't work. First it didn't take me to accept these terms page, it did absoulty nothing. Finally I got it to go to the accept page, and got to click on clean, but during the middle it says that it failed, and i can choose to report the problem. so i  reported the problem. but still nothing. i went to add and remove programs and one care isn't there. so i have nothing to remove. so i tried to reinstall it, and it says error. i'm going crazy. tell me how to fix this.

  • If the cleanup tool failed to remove OneCare and you are unable to reinstall as it hasn't actually fully uninstalled, please contact support.

Support for v1.6 is via the information here - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1183038&SiteID=2

Jumping back to the cleanup tool, though, did you download the utility and save it to your computer and then execute it? Are you doing this on XP or Vista? What version of OneCare are you attempting to reinstall? The above link assumes the released version of 1.6 although you posted to the 2.0 beta topic...

  • I'm trying to activate my OneCare subscription on my new PC. My previous laptop was just stolen. Every time I try, it tells me to just press "Activate Again"...I can't find this button. When I try to start fresh it tells me I can't use my key, since it's already activated and just add a PC....can't find that either.

You need to sign in at the beginning of the activation process with the same LiveID that was used to originally subscribe to OneCare.

If you have an active subscription, which is what was created when you activated on the first computer, you need to use the same LiveID on the subsequent activations. You can't use the same key twice. If you are arriving at a screen to purchase or provide a token, you are likely not using the same LiveID as the subscription ID.

If you don't recall the LiveID you used for your subscription, you will need to contact support who can provide that information to you using your Key and/or contact information.

Alternatively, sign in at http://billing.microsoft.com with email addresses that you have set up as LiveIDs and one will show your subscription listed - that would the LiveID to use to activate the reinstall.

I'm not sure what the "same problem" is as there are actually a few variations of activation problems here.
