Your computer predates Windows 7 and there is no bios marker for windows 7. You will need to activate using the COA key from the sticker on the bottom, back or side of your computer and activate by phone. If that sticker happens to be for windows vista then you will need to install that OS and activate it by phone or do a factory restoration.

Well thats true, i bought a new Lenovo laptop but i exchanged the disks. So i got the old SSD disk on my new computer and the new normal HDD on the old one. This was not a problem with Ubuntu, It just booted and worked. Which i had on my old computer. Though Windows 7 is giving me headaches.
I can't see why this should not work. I got a valid OEM version of windows 7 and it won't work because i don't have a bios marker. You sure make funny software.
Should i contact lenovo support or Microsoft?

You should reinstall the appropriate OS on the appropriate computer, or swap the hard drives back to their original PC.

I am sorry?
Are you telling me i can't use my Windows 7 copy on my laptop? I have to use it on the laptop it came shipped with?
If thats the case i will require a refund.

I will simply advise you to read the EULA that came with your computer for Windows 7 OEM.Monday, October 18, 2010 4:52 PM
-
Can you please tell why switching the Harddrive works with ubuntu and not with windows 7?
After reading the EULA i can see that i have 3 choices:
1. request a refund from Microsoft, since i didn't get what i paid for.
2. Get a working copy from the internet, there are load of working windows 7 copies on among others thepiratebay.org.
3. Install ubuntu, which work all the time and gives no trouble when i upgrade my computer.
Which choice do you recommend?
Monday, October 18, 2010 5:23 PM -
4. Read the EULA prior to purchasing a computer with an OEM operating system or applications, and understand the limits of the licensing. Then make an informed, educated decision like any other high functioning adult and if things do not work out as you expected, yet, according to the licensing agreement realise you have no room to complain.
As for #2. I know exactly what is available out there, and if you choose to go that route then I wish you luck but chances are you will be having validation issues again. BTW, the piratebay would be the absolute worst place to obtain anything other than a virus.

Thanks for not helping me.
I am really disappointed after having used Linux the last 12 year this is what meets me when i try to run a windows installation.
I can not see how that EULA is legal, it has to break a ton of laws.

Hello Idar2,
R#1: You did not purchase the operating system from Microsoft, therfore Microsoft will not give you a refund. You purchased the operating system and the computer from Lenovo, therefore you should request a refund from Lenovo.
I would suggest #3, as it seems you are much more familiar with the Ubuntu operating system than you are with Windows. Best to stick with what you know.

If you want to talk about "unsupported references," perhaps Carl_OH's reference to The Pirate Bay should be removed. There are plenty of (legal, not-virus-infected) torrents available on TPB. Whether users (such as Carl, probably) received viruses after downloading (and not hashing) software is not indicative of the total content of such a massive network. If you want immature, condescending censorship, these forums are great! Look at Darin Smith unmarking the OP's choice of 'answers.'

"If you want to talk about "unsupported references," perhaps Carl_OH's reference to The Pirate Bay should be removed."
The vast majority of OS images available by torrent or direct download have unwanted spyware in them. Whenever a file is downloaded of any type the hash should be verified if possible but none of that touches on the fact that distribution of those ISO's is illegal and therefore should not be discussed HERE.
"There are plenty of (legal, not-virus-infected) torrents available on TPB."
I am sure there are, but I also know for a fact that there are many files that are infected, just read the comments on the files themselves. Again, this is MS's forum and even the people who pirate the software intentionally respect the job MS does in developing it (or why would they pirate it), seems pretty blatant, bold and stupid to try to have a philosophical debate on the merits of software piracy on this venue.
"Whether users (such as Carl, probably) received viruses after downloading (and not hashing) software is not indicative of the total content of such a massive network."
The only virus, spyware or malware I have ever downloaded was done so on purpose, as for the second part, downloading from the vendor has an almost absolute zero chance of infection with a virus, however I still hash check for corruption, I use hashcalc and it works great. Someone with knowledge and the proper tools can avoid with absolute certainty getting a virus from a torrent, however that combination of knowledge and tools is sadly lacking and every infected computer connected to the internet degrades the security, reliability and speed of the internet as a whole. That said I feel 100% justified in making a blanket statement warning against the dangers of sites like that. Those with the knowledge and skill and a bit of maturity will realize the message inherent in my statement and let it pass, those with the knowledge, tools but lacking the maturity may try to attack the veracity of my statement.
"If you want immature, condescending censorship, these forums are great! Look at Darin Smith unmarking the OP's choice of 'answers."
That statement warrants no response.
Finally I would like to say this; it is called the pirate bay for a reason.
Friday, October 22, 2010 6:50 PM -
thanks for the support gpx989 Its not easy to talk with narrowminded people like Carl_OH.
Most of the stuff on different torrent sites are without viruses. I have used them a lot and i have never gotten a virus.
Whats the reason its called the pirate bay??
Nice job deleting my answer. What would you expect from Mcirosft, they have to censor to keep selling their product.
