I have a laptop which is completely dead and i want to transfer the windows product key from this laptop to another one. I have the product key with me and it is not OEM license. Is it possible to transfer the key? Other than the OEM license, where do normally windows keeps its product key(digital & retail) in a computer?

Hi,
Assuming it's not an OEM license, it should be possible to transfer the product key:
How to transfer a Windows 10 license to a new PC or hard driveYou can try using the freeware tool below to obtain your product key:

Thanks for the info. The link you shared describes that i should deactivate the product key first and then only i can transfer. But the problem is that my laptop is completely dead, hence it is not possible to deactivate the product key from that laptop. Is there any work around to deactivate the key if the computer is dead.Tuesday, November 24, 2020 12:42 PM

If you are sure it's not an OEM key, then simply retrieve your current product key with for example the freeware I mentioned above, then enter it on the new laptop, if you encounter issues you can always contact the Microsoft activation support:
