Windows 7 Genuine Advantage Validation Issues after image restore to new hard drive RRS feed

  • Question

  • I needed to put a new hard drive into my laptap.  I had a saved image of my Windows 7 instalation so I restored the image to the new hard drive using the windows 7 repair disk I had made.  the laptop booted fine from the restore and I was able to activate it.  Then I noticed that it would not automaticly update.  I ran the Genuine Diagnostics tool and got the report below.  Is there anything I can do besides do a complete reinstall of everything?

It looks from  your report as if Windows never properly activated - probably because of the file mismatches evident above - I would not really have expected a HD change to demand a re-activation request anyhow.

Try running the System Update Readiness Tool from here - http://support.microsoft..com/kb/947821/

Once it's done its stuff, reboot, and run the MGADiag tool again - post the new report, together with the results of the SURT run.

Apparently, the issue has been caused by the installation of an incompatible language pack program.

Please review: Vistalizator, Multilingual users and Validation problems

    Carey Frisch

Carey - WHERE do you see anything indicating a Vistalizator problem?
NONE of the files involved even mention the MUI.

It's the File Mistmatches that count - NOT the tampers!!
Now go and read the sticky for yourself, for a change.

  • Noel is correct, this is not a Language Pack issue.

The Diag gives us two lists of bad files: List #1 Mismatched files and list #2 Tampered files (see below).  We added the Tampered Files (list #2) because we found that the Mismatched Files list (list #1) doesn't always show us Mui files. The problem with List #2 is that it shows both the normal and the Mui file in each line for example Tampered File: %systemroot%\system32\slc.dll |slc.dll.mui that can be read as either the slc.dll OR the slc.dll.mui file is tampered.

the most common scenarios you will see are:

    a) If there are no files showing in List #1 but there are files listed in List #2 then go with the files listed in #2 and assume they are Mui.

    b) If the same files are showing in List #1 and in List #2 then list #1 will tell you if they are Mui or not

    c) If there are different files showing in the two Lists then any files in List #2 (but not in List #1) are Mui
