How can I adapt filesync to my needs (USB key)? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everybody,

For a special project, I want to setup a special kind of filesync: I've a device which is smaller than the size of the folder I want to sync. My setup is the following one:
        - Computer 1
        - Computer 2
        - Intermediate storage (think USB Key)

I want to sync from computer 1 to computer 2 (this is a one-way sync only). However, I can't store the whole folder on the USB Key. I would like to store empty files on the key that act like the normal file as soon as Computer 2 synced them (or, why not, a GUID that uniquely identify them). When the content of an already-synced file is changed, the content of file is replaced by the new one (Conflict resolution: source wins).

My problem is that when I change the content of a file on the USB key to make it smaller and that I rename the source file, the sync stops to work. Why?

Actually, I don't have an USB Key but a cloud storage whose capacity is limited but this shouldn't change the requirements.
