  • There are typically two causes for this error. One is that a KB patch needs to be installed prior to OneCare being installed and that patch is failing to install. Visit Windows Update and make sure that all offered important/critical updates have been installed. Then try installing OneCare. This error can also happen due a conflict per the information from OneCare Help:

Error 0023-80070643: Problems with third-party security software

You may receive this error when you try to install Windows Live OneCare. The problem may be caused by third-party security software or by an incomplete installation of a required update. To resolve the problem, restart your computer, and then try to install Windows Live OneCare again. If the problem isn't resolved, remove all third-party antivirus or firewall programs from your computer.

To uninstall all third-party security programs in Microsoft Windows XP:
    1. On the Start menu, click Run.
    2. Type appwiz.cpl, and then press ENTER.
    3. In the Currently installed programs list, click the entry for the third-party antivirus or firewall program, and then click Remove.
    4. Repeat these steps for each third-party antivirus or firewall program installed on your computer.
    5. Restart your computer, and then try to install Windows Live OneCare again.
To uninstall all third-party security programs in Windows Vista:
    1. In Windows Vista, on the taskbar, click Start, and then click in the Start Search text box.
    2. Type appwiz.cpl, and then press ENTER.
    3. In the Uninstall or change a program list, click the entry for the third-party antivirus or firewall program, and then click Uninstall/Change.
    4. Repeat these steps for each third-party antivirus or firewall program installed on your computer.
    5. Restart your computer, and then try to install Windows Live OneCare again.
