MCPD Web developer 4 or MCSD web applications RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am a web application developer in C#. I was planning on doing certification for the same. But with MCSD in place I am not sure which path i should go for? MCPD or MCSD. I have worked on CSS, javascript, LINQ, DataSets and aspx page development. What is an ideal certification path? This will be my first certification.

  • If you choose to go the MCPD way, you will be doing the Framework 4.0 exams (Visual Studio 2010), while the MCSD is based on 4.5 (Visual Studio 2012). Note that, besides the skills that you already listed, the MCSD also requires knowledge about Azure, and both the MCPD and MCSD require WCF and Entity Framework. All of them are heavy on MVC rather than .aspx.

The MCSD is, of course, more up to date than the MCPD. But on the other side you will find more preparation materials for MCPD, which has been out for a longer time. However, watch out for the retirement date of the MCPD exams; you don't want to start doing exams just to find out that you can't complete the certification because a required exam has been retired.

  • Hi,

MCPD on Visual studio 2010 is still valid, all Visual studio 2008 exams have already been retired.

The MCPD Visual Studio 2010 exams currently do not have a retirement date. This certification will not be updated anymore.
