  • Sip domain setup question:

If our AD child domain is company.mdco.local, our email address is user@mdco.com, and our website address is mdco.com.  What is the recommended sip domain name.   mdco.com, (do you try to use the email address) ?   If so I read you would need to create an internal zone for mdco.com but if you do does that mean you need to manage all records for mdco.com for your internal users if they have access to mdco.com sites not hosted by us?  Currently we only manage company mdco.local records and have another company manage our external DNS.

  • Yes, the recommended configuration is to use mdco.com as your SIP domain.  You could put all the necessary records in your external DNS zone, but it's generally frowned upon from a security perspective to publish internal addresses in your external DNS.  Split-brain DNS (hosting mdco.com as a separate internal and external zone) is very common and usually provides other benefits as well.
