Office 2007 Military Appreciation Edition product key can't be entered into my netbook RRS feed

  • Question

  • Since I do not have a CD drive on my new netbook, I downloaded the Microsoft Office trial version and tried to use the Office 2007 MAE Product key but it keeps telling me the product key is invalid.  I only have this loaded on my main laptop.  How do I get this to work on my netbook?  Do I need to download a different version?

  • Hello Timothy Noonan,

Your could run into this problem if you did not download the correct Office Trial edition.  Office 2007 MAE is really Office Standard 2007.  If you downloaded any other Trial Edition (such as Home & Student or Professional), the MAE product key you have does not match these other editions and of course would not be accepted.

Assuming my guess is correct, downloading and installing Office Standard 2007 Trial and entering your MAE product key for activation should resolve the problem.  To give that a try, here's a link to download Office Standard 2007 Trial:  http://us20.trymicrosoftoffice.com/free-download-microsoft-office-standard-2007-download.html

However before you start, to eliminate the posibility of version conflicts, it would be best to cleanse the computer of any other installations of Office.  Use the MS FixIt utility in this MS KB to automatically remove whatever installation of Office 2007 that is now on your netbook:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971179

  • Thanks.  You were correct.  But now it looks like there is nowhere to download the standard edition.  When I go to the mnicrosoft site it takes me to the professional download regardless of which version I want.  Any suggestions?

  • Hello Timothy Noonan,

There is another direct download page for Office but it too does not have Office Standard 2007:  http://www.microsoft.com/office/downloads/

It looks like you will have to get this installed "the old fashioned way" :-)  Here's a pretty good rundown on several options:  http://news.office-watch.com/t/n.aspx?articleid=904&zoneid=9
