CRM login defaults to administrator RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

In my CRM there are 5 userlogins  with different userids and passwords. If  logged in to CRM with any one of useraccount its just defaults to administrator account. Means it is taking the userid and password of any account and loging in but showing the logged in user as administrator. The CRM is not production CRM and it is installed in a local server.

    Any Idea?

    Thanks in advance

  • Verify IIS settings.

If I understand you correctly, no matter with which user you login, you are logged in as an administrator?

If this is a case verify authentication on MS Dynamics CRM web site - ASP.NET Impersonation should be set to Authenticated user.

  • Hi Nash,

    Start -- run -- Inetmg

then choose Microsoft Dynamics CRM Site

Under IIS there is Icon -- Authentication

by clicking it, you get all Authentication - choose ASP.NET Impersonation, right click it and choose edit

You probably have here Specific user check. Chosse Authenticated user instead.

(I belive you are using IIS7, if not, let me know)

  • Hi Naresh

When you are using 5 different logins, are you trying them from same machine (with windows login of "administrator") or you are using different client machines to connect to CRM?

  • same machine... it is taking the userid and password and logging inside but showing logged in user as administrator

  • If I am guessing right, you might be using, internet explorer settings, prompt for username and password (Tools --> Internet Options--> Custom Level --> Authentication --> Prompt for username and password).

If thats the case, what I believe, windows authentication is over-riding the custom setting of internet option for username and password you providing (specifically) and hence you see logged in user as Admin.

If possible, Try connecting a client machine to your local server with one of those 5 users as logged in user. and see if the problem stil persists.

  • Hi Naresh

I would like to have some more information:

    - You are on CRM 4.0 or 2011 (I am not sure if I could locate this in your query)

    - When you log in to Deployment Manager are you able to see 5 user licenses there?

  • I am just trying to think basics

I believe you did following while setting up CRM server:

    1. Installing win server and linking to an Active directory domain. If you do not have an existing active directory domain, then creating one on same server as CRM and then completing the setup of CRM

    2. Adding your 5 users to AD and then importing or adding them in CRM(that is still called as creating Users in CRM :) )

    - What does the domain logon name on every user profile says?

    - Do you have trace enabled? I am not sure what you are experiencing will be logged as a error in trace, still you can give a try reading trace.
