Can't get past "Review and accept agreements" , new mesh user, longtime ms user RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am a new Mesh user, a serious longtime MS user, and an IT pro, analyst/specialist/consultant... and I can not get past the  "Review and accept agreements" page, to even download the startup software on my main home pc... my login is the name@hotmail.com type, and I have had this for many many years (15-20?)... I have read all the posts about the problems like this, such as this one... http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/LiveMesh/thread/472b0cf4-0b96-41af-bdee-d8b59906ffbe , and this one... http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/LiveMesh/thread/bc34d510-dfaf-45a5-9a0f-d43798c32a90 , and this one... http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/LiveMesh/thread/ba9ce235-fe22-4eff-bab5-8b98c0ae57f4 ... I have cleaned the cache, cleaned the system disk, cleaned the pc, only use IE7 (will not! use IE8 again until it is redone!)... I sign in like normal, most of the time I have my Windows Live already logged in anyway, not always open maybe, but set to log in automatically so I just click on it and it comes up... and Live Mesh logs me in pretty quick also... then the "Review and accept agreements" page comes up, I click on the orange button, and the only thing that happens is  " /!\Error on page " appears at bottom left of status bar...  nothing else... I have tried logging out, cleaning everything, rebooting, cleaning everything again, and logging into nothing except Live Mesh, but the samething happens... my pc is Win XP Pro SP3, 512MB Ram, with a 4gb swap drive, actually runs very good... when I click on the I Agree button, the screen does not even blink, does not even shiver... running Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.05... completely up-to-date, and I have even tried turning it all off, to see if that made a difference, but no good, same problem occurs... and I have been trying to get in since mid-week...

  • Try setting IE back to defaults - Tools/Internet Options/Advanced.
Altenatively, try downloading another browser such as Chrome of Firefox and seeing if you can proceed there.

  • Thank you Stephen, for the quick service, wasn't really expecting any response this quick... I am on call 24/7 and believe me, they do call... I logged on here earlier just to check, and of course immediately got called out, so it is pretty good to see a response this quick when I get back home, thanks... anyhoo, about the only thing I had not tried, for this problem, was to use Chrome, so I tried it per your advice and I am in Live Mesh now, I guess Chrome looked at it in a different way and liked what it saw... I am going to continue trying to get in through IE7, once I get it all setup, Chrome is good for some things, but IE is much better all around, saving desktop shortcuts and saving pages as .mht documents... there does seem to be a problem with my Windows Live account, I can log into Windows Live and all that stuff, but when I try to go into My Windows Live account, I get the error msg...  "

    There's a temporary problem

There's a temporary problem with the service. Please try again. If you continue to get this message, try again later.

"... This has been happening for as long as I have been trying to get into Live Mesh,  and I can not get into the account to even find out what is wrong and/or try to correct anything. All right, I can get into it throiugh Chrome... I am going to reset IE7 to defaults and see what happens from there... if there are any more problems, I will let you know... thanks again for the help, and have a great weekend!...

  • Stephen, I am completely into Live Mesh now, in both g-chrome and IE7... and I am all sync-ed up and working great... gchrome worked allright from the start, after your suggestion, and then after I reset IE to the defaults and restarted the browser, IE7 is working great, also... going to send a help message to Win Live help section for my Win Live account problem, which is still ongoing... I would like to know what setting in IE7 was blocking the Live Mesh startup, so if you come back through here and have the time, please let me know, if you know, it could come in handy in my computer work in the future... I will eventually be able to dig it up myself, if I can ever finish my other system rebuilds... I will check back here sometime Sunday afternoon, I hope... anyway, thanks again for all the help, and have a great day-week-weekend...

  • Glad to read that you're up and running. To the best of my knowledge, the blocking part was a cookie - perhaps a corrupt one - for your LiveID credentials.

  • For your Windows Live ID problem, do you mean that you cannot sign into http://account.live.com with the LiveID?

  • Yes, that account is where the problem is occurring, but apparently the problem is with IE7 again, I can get into the account with gchrome, so IE7 is currently the problem... when I sign into it that account with chrome, it goes right in and the page comes up listing all of my settings, apparently called the summary page, everything normal... but when I try to go in with IE7, the page comes up for about 2 seconds, and then it flashes away quickly and the error page comes up...

    " There's a temporary problem

There's a temporary problem with the service. Please try again. If you continue to get this message, try again later. "

    ... and this error page has url...  "  https://account.live.com/error.aspx?mkt=en-us&errcode=502  "  ...

I guess the errcode=502 ... so I am signed into the account, but that is all, can not see anything or do anything, in IE7... I have no trouble with WinLive Mail or Hotmail or Live Mesh, or anything else, as far as I know... so the problem is with IE7 and/or the 502 errcode, whatever that refers to... I am going to goldoe that errcode and see what comes up... any ideas right off hand what that errcode refers to?... I will be checking back more often now, weekend is over, and my subjects, I mean, customers, have to go back to work Monday and maybe things will quiet down for me... maybe... anyway, thanks a billion, and have a great week...

  • Well, It looks like I am good to go... (knockingonwoodashesaysit..) ... My IE7 install was corrupt... Since I knew my chrome was working good enough to let me in everywhere, the only problem possible is IE7... so I reset everything to default, deleted everything to do with it, turned off all AVs/AMWs/FWs, rebooted, and still could not get in... so I add/Removed it, which set system back to IE6... rebooted, and when it came up, turned on all AVs/AMWs/FWs, tried to get into the account with IE6... and it worked like a charm, even faster than gchrome... so then I downloaded the latest and greatest of IE7, and installed it along with the updates it downloaded... rebooted, checked Microsoft Update for security updates, showed ActiveX Killbits and another one available, downloaded and installed those two, rebooted, and then tried IE7, and it WORKED... so then I went about putting all my settings back in, and few at a time, then rebooting and testing, and eventully I got all the way back to where I should be, and IE7 is working great... and everything works great, and I will almost certainly discover that everything works better than before... maybe now I can finish those other rebuilds and then attack Win 7... and sleep... yeah... I remember that... mystical place, no keyboards... hmmmmmmmm... anyway, thanks a billion, if you need anything just let me know, and have a great day/week/weekend!!...

  • Glad to read that things are looking up. And get some sleep - lack of sleep will cause more problems. ;-)

  • I have been trying to login as well and I haven't had any luck. I have tried logging in using Chrome, Firefox 3.5 and IE8 on a Windows 7 machine. I have also tried logging in using Firefox 3.5 and IE8 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 box. Nothing I do seems to have any effect. Has this glitch been especially obvious the past few days?

  • I have since tried on a Windows Vista computer, also with multiple browsers. I even created a brand new Microsoft Passport account and still wasn't able to do anything. What makes this such a universal problem?

In the one I can't install it, the browser does nothing in the accept condidtions page. No browser works.

  • PLEASE HELP ME!!! I have the same problem! I've tried it in IE, Chrome, and Firefox on three different computers, and still no luck. Is there a workaround to this problem? I've read up on this topic for about an hour now but can't find an answer. Help please.

  • For everyone posting this problem today, I'm going to lock this thread and refer you to this thread: http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/LiveMesh/thread/731d78b4-c519-49eb-8e9d-5d87082ffdd7

It would seem that there may be a server issue. I don't expect to see anyone from the Live Mesh team look into this until Monday at the earliest.
