Need help to remove an Add-in RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to remove Perfectdisk 2008 from my WHS.

The problem is that the program is not shown on the Add-ins tabs, neither as Installed nor as Available. (The program is installed - it is fully functional on the Console tabs).

How should I proceed to safely remove the program?

  • How did you install it? If you installed it as an add-in (i.e. put the .msi file in the \\SERVER\Software\Add-ins folder, then used the console for the installation) then did you remove the .msi after the installation? If you didn't install it as an add-in (i.e. installed it in a Remote Desktop session) then you should probably remove it the same way. If you installed it as an add-in, the .msi file was left in the add-ins folder (or you've put it back), and you still don't see it as available for removal, then you should contact Raxco for assistance.

You should not simply remove the PerfectDisk .dll from C:\Program Files\Windows Home Server on your server. That will only remove the interface to the software, not the software itself.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

Thanks for your hint - the installation procedure was (as advised by Raxco - the folders referred to in step 2 below was copied to the WHS in an earlier step):

    1. Established a remote desktop connection to your home server

    2. On the Home Server, click START - My Computer and browse to D:\Shares\Software\PerfectDisk2008_Home_Server

    3. Double-click PerfectDisk_x86.msi to install PerfectDisk on your home server.

I guess I have to contact Raxco to learn how to uninstall the software.

There's your problem. :)  Raxco clearly doesn't understand how WHS works.

In any event, you should be able to uninstall it by using RDC to get to the server desktop and uninstalling it through Add/Remove Programs.
