Removal of Hard Disk Frozen ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey all, I started a hard disk removal this morning when I woke up, now 10 hours later the progress bar is still in the same place on a drive that was *at most* 16% full to begin with (1.5TB Hard Disk).  So I'm wondering if this has locked up or something, the network status icon on the management console changed to 'critical' sometime today.  I had a look in my logs and don't see anything related to the file copy that is supposed to be happening.

Should I just reboot the machine or ?...

  • I would just reboot and try again. If it continues to occur, you may want to make sure it can get through a "chkdsk /r"

  • I gave up on trying to remove the normal way.  I pull the drive I wanted to remove from the machine, removed the drive in a 'missing' state from the pool (this takes 2-3 min to complete).  Then hooked up the drive on USB and manually copied the data back.

I cannot guarantee this will work 100% for all situations, but if your just doing 'basic' data storage it *should* be fine.

Also you get the added plus of your storage array actually being accessible during the file copy
