Mediation Server localization RRS feed

  • Question

  • Problem: Direct SIP  trunk was implemented between Cisco Call Manager 6.x and OCS R2. Outside lines are connected to CUCM.

Calls would not flow from CUCM to OCS when 4-digit OCS extension was dialed. Then I have noticed that the call indeed comes through when dialing from the outside line to the main CUCM auto-attendant, then asking to dial an OCS extension. Long story short, trace capture on the mediation server revealed that in case of the outside call, field “Display Name” for calling party in SIP request was in the form of “+1XXX1234567”. It appeared that in the other call Unicode characters in Display Name of the CISCO IP phone were translated into garbage by either SIP trunk or by mediation server and then SIP request failed because of that.

Blanking the field for a specific phone in CUCM solved the problem but not there is no Name displayed when two users in CISCO are calling to each other and of  course in OCS too.

Is there any possibility to allow Unicode characters to be accepted as the valid Display Name field in SIP packets?

    Any suggestions? Experience sharing?

    Thank you,
