Money Sunset - password RRS feed

  • Question

  • Having had error messages, Money finally persuaded me to download the Sunset programme (despite my being a UK user).  With some difficulties I did that and then got an error message that a Planner file was corrupt. I was told to reload Money which I did from my 2005 disc only to be asked for a password - I do not believe I ever had one and I had the same problem when trying to restore the latest backup.  I have years of financial information which I need to access.  I see someone suggested using Quicken but I think that is only open to US customers - I used to use Quicken until they withdrew from the UK and migrated to Money.  I am not sure that password recovery software will work.  Help please

  • You may have already hosed yourself.

I think you should read http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/money/thread/ba8e9925-b188-4885-a057-3fbf96a99412 and http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/money/thread/31c88a64-0d19-4c4d-80fb-04298c08727b. Also http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=177 provides some background.

The necessary patch may still be available. Try starting your reloaded M05UK by creating a new file or opening the sample file. Then do an Internet Update to see if it downloads and installs the paches.

  • Thank you for your help.  I did indeed create a new file and did an internet update but the wretched program still wants a password - which I never had - to open my backed up information - years and years of it.  Any other answer? Would the Registry hold password info?

  • You have a Money 2005 UK problem and not a Money Plus Sunset problem. It is unfortunate that you tried that experiment without first preparing a disk to let you reinstall Money 2005 UK. You may want to edit your topic to reflect that.

Also, read thru other topics with UK in the title to seek information.

  • Suggest you start your M05UK+patches, go into Help|About and record the version number (should be numbers in a form like xx.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx or similar). Report it back here.
