CRM 2011 - How do I : member attrition RRS feed

  • I need to calculate member attrition year by year and show those data in the dashboard using a Chart.

    As Im very new to CRM, I dont have any idea of doing this. I surf through google. i couldnt find any related article.

    This url shows something  i want (but not year by year grouping there).


    How do I show the attrition data in a chat at dashboard?

    If anyone can send me qucik reply it wolud be very much appricated.

  • Having worked on a few membership solutions in the past, this can be a big topic depending on how an organisation reports membership attrition or 'churn', particularly when factoring local tax rules for defining non-for-profit memberships (such as Gift Aid in the UK).

    Would recommend consulting with one of the CRM Gold Partners which has experience with Membership and Not-for-Profit solutions, such as Excitation or my old stomping ground Pythagoras. (we did quite a few membership projects)

    However if you are going it alone - would suggest establishing a structure CRM to handle Memberships with Contacts, such that a Contact in CRM can have any number of Memberships each with a Start Date and End Date.  Membership in this context could be a new custom entity or a re-use of the existing Order or Contract entities depending on the project.

    Next step would be to determine how much Dashboard reporting could be done with the standard CRM 2011 Chart and Dashboard tools as these are quick to develop - you may find the following articles helpful:




    Depending on how much of your requirements can be achieve through the out of the box Dashboard reporting, you may then need to look into Custom CRM Reporting using Visual Studio - the following section in the CRM SDK is a good starting point:


    With custom reporting you can then include reports in CRM Entity Forms, Dashboards or even SharePoint dashboards - this gives you a larger degree of flexibility than the boxed reporting tools but does involve a good level of development.

    Thank you very much for your reply. I need to verify few more things.

    Actually I have been stuck in The way of calculating the Attrition Rate.

    How do I get the data from the CRM entities for the following criteria.


    Attrition Rate = Attrition * Opening Count                                             

                          (Opening Count - Attrition) + New Joiners Count


    Attrition(Leavers) = Inactive members by year

    Opening Count = All active members for end of last financial year.

    New Joiners count = All new members who have joined after the 1st of financial year
