One Care software after June RRS feed

  • Question

  •  I just learned about OneCare being unsupported in June.  Will the installed software still work to defrag and back up files?  Will it only be the virus updates that will cease to update?  I am very disappointed that MicroSoft has taken this step backwards in supporting their customers who found OneCare the perfect solution.

  • Hello Bill, One Care will be fully supported through the end of 2010. See this post for more detail - http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/onecaregeneral/thread/64d5a8bf-5c4f-4389-8510-76f233c65aa6

  • Help me out here. I was told on 2-17-2009, that live one care is going away on April 30th 2008. And nothing is going to be offered to replace it. So here I sit with basically 2 months left on this subscription. I have placed numerous calls to microsoft, and shocker,I get the run around. Can somebody else give me some more info. just to confuse me a lil bit more. For me One care is/has worked great. I run 3 computers with this, and I can keep up with all 3,it is very easy for me. Please shed some light on this for me.

  • OneCare as it exists today will continue to be available and sold through most of 2009. At some point in the second half of 2009, Microsoft will introduce Morro, which is reported to be a free antivirus solution. It will not include a firewall, tune-up, backup, etc. - only antimalware. It will use the same engine as OneCare and Defender, so it will be like running Defender with a simple antivirus program. OneCare subscribers will receive information on how to transition to Morro.
If your OneCare subscription expires in the first half of 2009, you can renew it online or by using a retail key to renew. Some time in the latter half of 2009, renewals and new subscriptions will no longer be accepted. However, anyone who already renewed or activated a new subscription will continue to be fully supported through the end of their subscription in 2010. All support for OneCare will likely cease by the end of 2010, depending on when the last activations/renewals were allowed.
