Can I install? - 40GB Internal/240GB External Drives RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I read the requirement of 80 GB I thought it meant total, not the main drive.  I'm not able to install because my main drive is only 40 GB, but I have an external drive (240 GB 3.5" in an enclosure connected through USB) also connected to the system.  Is there any way for me to use this machien for Windows home server?

It's a Dell D610 laptop which meets all other requirements.

  • No. You will have to upgrade to an 80+ GB drive. But I wouldn't recommend trying to run Windows home Server on a laptop, other than as a testbed. Laptops are thermally challenged to begin with, and a server OS will tend to put much more strain on the hardware than a desktop OS.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
