Question on moving CRM 4.0 org db to different server with different version of SQL RRS feed

  • Question

  • We would like to move the database for our CRM 4.0 org from a 32-bit OS/SQL 2005 to a 64-bit OS running SQL 2008. The application will remain on a 32-bit OS.

Is this as simple as backing up the database and restoring it to the new server, then repointing CRM through the deployment manager? Or is there an update that needs to be run to prepare the CRM db for SQL 2008?

The info that I see online does not address our specific scenario: mostly they discuss new implementations or an in-place upgrade of SQL, whereas we are merely trying to move the db to a newer server.

  • Sort of, the problem is that you when you move the MSCONFIG database over with your MSCRM database, the deployment manager will still be looking for the other SQL Server. The key is modified register key on the CRM application server, pointing to the DB once you restore them.

    Here's a step by step:

  • I have the same question. The link above shows moving both the database to another SQL and the CRM 4.0 server.

    this is my situation:

I have a CRM 4.0 with SQL in it.  I would like to maintain my CRM 4.0 Application server, but I want to split/move the database to our new SQL server 2008 R2.  Can I just backup and restore both databases, CRM DB and the CONFIG DB on the new SQL 2008 R2?  After that, I can run the "Deployment Manager" to reconnect to the new Sql server? is it that simple?  Your help will be much appreciated.

    Thank you

  • By the way, I found the MS site with the steps:

[ You want to move the Microsoft Dynamics CRM databases to another Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services server in the same domain. Additionally, you want to leave the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server on the existing server.]
