Still trying to recover Outlook files with .DBX extension..... RRS feed

  • Question

  • Reset my computer to its out-of-box config, reloaded OneCare, but have yet to successfully restore my Outlook file.  I can 'see' the files by exploring the my OneCare backup - they all have a '.dbx' extension.  The only thing that I am able to restore is my contact list, but need all of my 'Sent' achives.  One other thing, the files I am able to view all have the same date no matter how old the actual file is.  Why is that?  Thank you.

  • You will need to use the import function in Outlook Express to complete the restore.

The file date is the date that the files were backed up or the date your restored them.

  • I should add that you will need to perform the restore of the email files using the Restore wizard and specifying the location to restore to as you can't simply restore to the current mailbox location. In my original reply, I assumed that you had already restored the data, until I read it again and noted that you are browsing the backup catalog.

  • I have followed your instructions to import my Outlook Email files via restore of my backed-up OneCare disc.

I get all the way through the menu - right up to the point 'Import Personal Folders', i click 'do not import duplicates' - I then click 'Next' to commence the import.  Then I get the following popup, error box:

"! File Access denied!  You do not have the permission required to access the file C:\Users\Documents\Restore\12-11-07\

Administrators\EmailFiles\OutlookEmail\Microsoft Outlook Email Settings\archive.pst".  If only I can achieve this final step!  What can I do?  Thank you.
