Visual Studio unable to debug due to firewall RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm unable to run Visual Studio 2005 in debug mode due to the OneCare firewall.  Every time I try to debug my local web apps, I get a message that says "Unable to connect to web server. Verify that the web server is running and that inbound HTTP requests are not blocked by a firewall."

If I turn off the firewall, it works fine, so clearly the firewall is blocking the debug process.  What is it that I have to open or grant permissions to get this to work?

  • Since you are able to connect to the server with the firewall off, it would seem to me that you may need to determine what port your application or the VS Debug process is trying to use. It is also possible that the problem is that your code is being blocked from having network access, in which case the executable will need to be manually added to the firewall allow list. I'm not sure how the VS Debug process works and if it needs access to a server or if it is simply your project that needs access.
